Prevention
- Wear hat to protect head and neck.
- Wear light clothing to protect from sun
- Use a shirt that has a collar.
- Carry sufficient water for the conditions
- Don’t exceed your capabilities (this could include not going on a trip known to be tough!)
Symptoms
- Flushed face, hot, dry skin.
- Headache, dizziness.
- Muscle and/or abdominal cramps.
- Irritability, vomiting, unconsciousness.
Treatment
- Stop; rest in shade.
- Cool down the patient as soon as possible by shading, splashing with water and fanning.
- Give ample water to drink. Slowly and not ice-cold.
