BACKBACK WEIGHT....

We always have the conflicting requirements of creature comforts versus load carried. Many if you will be familiar with the oft-quoted line "one third of body weight". However, it must be remembered that this is maximum load for someone fully hiking fit. Except possibly at the beginning of a week-long trip, we should not be anywhere near this maximum if the hike is to be enjoyed.
Newer hikers should discuss with the leader the needs for a specific hike, the rest of us should be exercising our ingenuity to devise light-weight versions of all our favourite bits of gear!
