When it comes to clothing, weight is again a factor, but the hiker also needs to consider bulk. Your favourite sweater is a total no-no if it takes up two-thirds of your rucksack! For warmth, go for several thin layers rather than one warm item; it enables you to peel of don as conditions vary.
A raincoat is a non-negotiable, preferably with a hood, even if you do normally wear a hat. A track-suit trousers for the evening and a spare shirt should be carried; the shorts you’ve got on should be OK for up to 4 days. Don’t forget clean underwear, and most important - socks! Always put clean socks on every day of a hike. This does not mean one has to carry 6 pair5s of socks on a week-long hike - by nightly washing 3 pairs should do it |
