CLUB RULES....

  • All persons taking part in club activities do so entirely at their own risk and the club takes no responsibility for any loss or injury sustained.


  • All persons taking part in club activities must adhere to the E.R.H.C. Rules.


  • Make sure you know the leader of the hike and follow only him/her, and obey only his/her instructions. Do not deviate from the main hike without his/her permission.


  • Hikers must remain with the main party unless the leader has agreed to a splinter group controlled by a nominated sub-leader.


  • Hikers must wear strong footwear (not designer takkies, san- dals, slip-slops or high heeled shoes) and a hat, and should carry a raincoat, sweater and/or anorak. Carry rain gear and a jersey in both summer and winter – during a thunderstorm the temperature can drop by as much as 10 degrees Celsius (Leaders may refuse hikers who are not suitably equipped.)


  • Hikers must carry a minimum of 2 litres of water and a whistle.


  • Hikers must have a daypack for day hikes, larger backpack for trails (No plastic bags to be carried in the hands).


  • No fires may be lit (except at designated sites by permission of the hike leader) and must be extinguished completely before leaving the site.


  • All litter must be taken home for disposal. including fruit peels/apple cores etc.


  • No picking of flowers or uprooting of plants,


  • Care must be taken to avoid damage to trees, fences and private property.


  • No radios, dogs or noisy behavior.


  • Hikers under the age of 18 who participate in a hike must be the responsibility of a nominated member of the club.


  • No child under the age of 12 is allowed to hike, unless per mission has been obtained from the leader in advance.


  • Nude bathing can be offensive, please exercise discretion.


  • Use a high UV protection sunscreen lotion.


  • Walk with care to prevent injury.


  • Non-members must complete an indemnity form available from hike leader.


  • The Hike Leader must be notified of any medical condition suffered by the hiker and it is at his discretion whether hiker will be allowed to hike with the group
