Holhoek Hiking Trail in situated in the Eastern Free State. Holhoek Guest Farm which is situated some 18km near the picturesque small Eastern Free State town of Paul Roux. It is approximately 310km from Johannesburg and 230km from Bloemfontein. The town is situated next to the N5 (the National Road between Durban and Bloemfontein – the Capital of the Free State), approximately 30 km from Senekal and 40 km from Bethlehem. The access road in not for any car with low ground clearance but most modern SUVs will have no problem. The farm has a very rich archaeological heritage and is therefore very special and unique. The two day figure of eight trail traverses a variety of terrains including mountain tops, sandstone krans, kloofs and valleys.
The base camp consists of 2 gorgeous cosy thatch-roof huts and a double story house overlooking our dam. Each small hut consists of 6 single bunk beds which can take up to 12 people.  In the double story house there is enough room 16 people on each floor. We will make our way to the venue on Friday afternoon/ Evening. We will enjoy a braai and a pleasant evening in a quiet/ beautiful spot. Lifts with other hikers can be arranged to share the travel expenses. The hike leader will assist with this.
On Saturday we will tackle the 13km long hike and on Sunday we will do the second trail of 7km. The trail can be graded as moderate and suitable for all ages. Caution must just be taken on all bridges and ladders and it is lots of fun. On Sunday after the hike we will make our way back to Johannesburg. This is a base camp hike so for those that are not keen to do the Sunday hike they have the alternative of sleeping in late and having a leisurely breakfast before embarking on your journey home. The hike and accommodation will cost you R570 per person.
