Lesoba Hiking Trail is situated in the Eastern Free State between Fouriesburg and Clarens. 350km from Johannesburg and 280 km from Bloemfontein. From Johannesburg it is approximately 3.5 hours travel. Lifts with other hikers can be arranged to share the travel expenses. The hike leader will assist with this. Lesoba Hiking Trail offers a tranquil, revitalising getaway, ideal for hikers as well As nature and outdoor enthusiasts.
The accommodation consists of four self-catering sandstone chalets, a cottage and two flat-lets/units. We also offer six single beds as basic accommodation for backpackers or hikers. All the Chalets are situated next to a dam with panoramic views. We will make our way to the venue on Friday afternoon/ Evening. We will enjoy a braai and a pleasant evening in a quiet/ beautiful spot. The following morning we will embark on the longer of the two hiking trails 14 km (approx. 6 hours) and we will do the shorter one 9 km (approx. 4 hours) with views of Lesotho, the Caledon river, Clarens and Fouriesburg districts on Sunday. Along the way you will come across the Queen Victoria rock formation, Bushman paintings and a Dinosaurs femur embedded in rock.
Lesoba also boasts Blesbok , rock rabbits and an array of bird species. Magnificent stargazing at night. On Sunday after the hike we will make our way back to Johannesburg. This is a base camp hike so for those that are not keen to do the Sunday hike they have the alternative of sleeping in late and having a leisurely breakfast before embarking on your journey home. The hike and accommodation will cost you R520 per person.
